Nevers Agglomération has retained a new service provider to implement the medical air line between the Dijon Bourgogne University Hospital and the Nevers hospital center. Smaller planes should halve the carbon footprint.

Press release from Nevers Agglomeration of May 2, 2024:

A new airline supports the Flying Doctors system of the Nevers Agglomeration Hospital Center for greater flexibility in requests for reinforcement of doctors in the territory of the Nevers agglomeration and Nièvre.

The Flying Doctors system – Dijon-Nevers-Dijon medical airline – set up in January 2023 by the Nevers Agglomeration Hospital Center with the assistance of the City of Nevers and its agglomeration and under the leadership of Denis THURIOT , President-Mayor of the Agglomeration of Nevers, Regional Councilor of Burgundy Franche-Comté and President of the Supervisory Board of CHAN – is evolving with a new service provider, the French airline “REVOLUTION’AIR”.

This air taxi company was selected because it best met the needs established by the specifications of the open call for tenders and in particular on the following points:

• Ability

These smaller capacity aircraft allow greater flexibility in requests for reinforcement of doctors in the area of the Nevers and Nièvre conurbations. The DA62 aircraft thus offers 4 seats unlike 8 with the previous service provider’s aircraft.

One or two planes can thus establish a Dijon-Nevers rotation according to needs. If necessary, larger aircraft could be requested.

• Economy

Smaller and lighter, the DA62 consumes almost 50% less fuel than the previous aircraft.

• Environmental impact

The choice of this fleet was also motivated by the reduction in the carbon footprint offered by these small aircraft, reducing the CO2 impact per trip by almost half.

Flights will continue on Thursday with a duration now extended to 45 minutes (increase of 10 minutes compared to the previous model). Although the journey is slightly longer than other aircraft models, the DA 62 is the optimal choice for short distance flights, an efficient and environmentally friendly solution.

The Nevers Agglomeration Hospital Center and the company REVOLUTION’AIR have entered into a contract, as part of the public market, for a period of 1 year from April 1, 2024 with a possible tacit renewal of 3 times 12 months. The rotation day is maintained on Thursday for the moment.

Denis THURIOT – Mayor of Nevers, President of Nevers Agglomération, Regional Councilor of Burgundy Franche-Comté and President of the CHAN Supervisory Committee
“15 months after we implemented this emergency measure to strengthen the hospital’s medical teams, it is clear that the Flying Doctors system is still necessary in Nevers, and even encouraged by the Dijon University Hospital. . The health of the inhabitants of the urban area and Nièvre remains a priority. Our geographical location, at one end of this large Burgundy Franche-Comté region, forces us to find solutions to quickly treat patients who are too far from the Dijon University Hospital.
Anxious to always adapt the offer to patients and doctors but also to find the best compromises in terms of economy and respect for the environment, the REVOLUTION’AIR company will meet all these criteria. »

Florent FOUCARD – Director of the Nevers Agglomeration Hospital Center and the Nièvre Territory Hospital Group
“The “Flying Doctors” system perfectly illustrates the cohesion between establishments united in a common objective: meeting the needs of the citizens of the Nivernais region. With this new provider, we offer patients the opportunity to benefit from local health professionals to address the health challenges of our region, while adopting an economical and ecological approach. The service provider selected following the call for tenders best met the defined criteria and we are continuing our commitment to health in a responsible manner. »
