World Championship in Zurich: Charles Moreau bothered by an infection

At the World Championship last week in Zurich, Switzerland, paracyclist Charles Moreau was unable to complete his final event due to an infection.

If the Victoriaville resident was unable to finish this road race event, it was due to his own decision. Sick, he simply was not able to continue. “I have an infection that started last Sunday (September 22). I’ve been on antibiotics since that day, he said. So it wasn’t great for my last race. At the end of the first big lap we had to do, I was about three minutes behind the chasing pack. At this point I started having difficulty breathing and secretions. I had a personal analysis as to whether I was going to be able to help my Canadian teammate perform better. I also wondered if it was really worth putting myself down and having it take me another week to recover. So I decided to cut this race short. »

Before this event, Moreau also took part in two other races, the relay and the individual time trial. The first of these took place on Saturday (September 21) and the second was held on Tuesday (September 24). The 42-year-old athlete took part in the relay for fun, with little concern for results. As for the individual time trial in the H3 category, he finished in 12th place.

“From third place down, they were all guys I beat this year. My average was below what I did this year and what I was targeting. I know my energy wasn’t as good as it should have been,” he said, disappointed.

Now the world championship behind him, Charles Moreau feels several emotions about what happened to him, including a certain disappointment. “I would have liked to finish the season in a better way. I would have liked to recover from my less satisfactory results from the Olympic Games. I know that I was in the mix during the season and that I was able to make podiums. At the last World Championship, everything went well on the bike, but it was my health that took a bit of a hit. I can’t change anything and I have to look forward,” he said.

Place to rest

Once the season is over, Charles Moreau will take the next few months to rest and completely relax. He wants to spend more time with family and friends. He doesn’t know when he will return. “I want to take the opportunity to ride with my friends and for fun. It’s a completely different state of mind. It’ll feel good. My goal will be to stay active over the next few months,” he concluded.
