Oil leak on the former Triskalia site in Rennes, firefighters monitor the Vilaine

The chemical risks unit of the Rennes firefighters and around fifteen firefighters intervened, this Thursday, May 2, 2024, on the former site of the Triskalia factory, rue de la Roberdière in Rennes, currently being deconstructed. A major oil leak has been detected and firefighters are trying to prevent pollution of the Vilaine.

For several weeks, the former site of the Trikalia factory, located in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), has been the subject of deconstruction. This Thursday morning, May 2, 2024, a water pipe located near a tank where a significant quantity of fuel was still stored was pierced by a construction machine. An incident which caused a fuel leak into the wastewater with the risk of the water-fuel mixture reaching the nearby Vilaine.

Traces of iridescence in the Vilaine

Alerted around 10:30 a.m., the firefighters dispatched their unit specializing in chemical risks and around fifteen firefighters to the site. “We were able to place blocking cushions in the water pipe to block the flow,” explains Lieutenant Eric Montier from the Beauregard rescue center and responsible for on-site operations. We also deployed a boat on the Vilaine where traces of water iridescence due to hydrocarbons were detected. If necessary, we will deploy a floating boom to prevent pollution from spreading. »

The operation was still in progress this Thursday afternoon.
