Two kilos of cocaine seized and two men arrested after a collision in Bas-Saint-Laurent

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) got their hands on two kilos of cocaine in addition to arresting two men, during an intervention in connection with a collision in Bas-Saint-Laurent on Monday.

Shortly before noon, the SQ was called to the scene of an accident between a heavy goods vehicle and a car on Highway 85, in Dégelis. No one was injured during the events.

“The driver of the car hit the rear of the truck before losing control. An investigation has begun to establish the causes and circumstances surrounding this collision,” explains police spokesperson Frédéric Deshaies.

Once on scene, the police noticed that the occupants of the car had two kilograms of cocaine in their possession at the time of impact.

They also confiscated three prohibited firearms, a high-capacity magazine and Canadian money.

The passenger in the car is one Daniel Statton Larizza, 22, from Scarborough, Ontario.

The young man appeared at the Rivière-du-Loup courthouse on Tuesday for non-compliance with conditions. He remains detained until his return to court, scheduled for May 6.

According to Sergeant Deshaies, several charges relating to narcotics and possession of firearms could be added.

As for the driver, a 23-year-old man from St. John’s, Newfoundland, he has been released pending legal proceedings. He will face charges of dangerous driving in connection with the accident he caused.
