“That’s it, it’s official: Fort Boyard-La Rochelle completed in 6h09. The crossing went well overall despite the counter-current throughout, and luckily the coefficient was low and there were few waves.” The Angoumois swimmer Enzo Bruno, deprived of the use of his legs, set off this Tuesday from Father Fouras’s home to La Rochelle, and he did not hide his satisfaction at the end of his feat, intended to prepare another: crossing the Channel.

The Channel in focus

In June 2023, he waited a month to be able to board but had to resolve to return due to a lack of an acceptable weather window. Last February, he told us about this “trial run” between Fort Boyard and La Rochelle: “I’m going to put myself in the water 50 meters from the Fort because we don’t have the right to touch it, and swim to Minimes beach. That’s 20 kilometers. I swim at 2.5 km/h, so it will take me around ten hours but it depends on the wind.” It ultimately took him a little over six hours to connect the two points, from Fort Boyard to Chef de Baie beach.

After dedicating his feat to Daniel Manzanas, former president of the departmental adapted sports committee of Charente, who died recently, he is now focusing on his objective of swimming across the Channel for the benefit of the Agathe & Paul association which helps two children with disabilities.
