Near Rennes, a big medieval festival in this city this weekend

The city of Chateaugironnear Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) organizes the 2nd edition Character Sundays in Brittany, Sunday May 5, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The initial idea was to bring together residents and associations to organize a walk to discover the city from other angles. We decided to put in place a lot more things by organizing a day around the medieval, at the castle and in the city center, a beautiful medieval festival,” explains Chantal Louismunicipal councilor.

A banquet at the castle

This year, the activities will take place on a day and not over half a day. Several new features are also on the program, including a medieval banquet at the castle (€15).

Registration is done at the tourist office and places are limited to 150 people. Shows by the Marotte and Les Musards company will also be offered to the public.

Also on the program: heritage discoveries, visits, fights, theater and product tastings.

» We will end with a big show at 4:30 p.m. by the company Marotte et les Musards, which will also take place during the banquet. This event mobilizes 50 volunteers and several partners. In addition, the three bakers from the city center will also participate and make cakes,” concludes Jean-Claude Belinedeputy for commerce, tourism and city entertainment.

The course of the day

• From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Designer artisan market, farmers’ market, medieval games and medieval mini-farm.
• From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dance and music with the La Rigourden company.
• From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Game Attacking heritage : quizzes and puzzles. Remember to reserve your game booklet in advance with the Tourist Office. Prizes to be won.
• From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Story-telling stroll (duration: 1h15), starting at Place des Gâtes.
• From 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Medieval banquet and shows by the Marotte and Les Musards company. Medieval tavern. Catering, refreshment bar and costume loan on site.
• 4:30 p.m. Show by the company Marotte et les Musards.
