You may have encountered them, this Saturday, September 28, 2024, on the roads from Seine-et-Marne. Some 90 bikers participated in an awareness-raising operation, carried out by the gendarmes of the Departmental Road Safety Squadron (EDSR), in the sectors where the motorized brigades (PMO) of Nemours, Provins, Coulommiers, Melun and Meaux.
The gendarmerie makes motorcyclists aware of the “safety trajectory”
“The objective of this afternoon is to present the safety trajectory for bikers, explains Captain Vincent Stegiani, second in command of the EDSR. It is a maneuver which is provided to all gendarmerie motorcyclists who pass through the National Road Safety Training Center (CNFSR), in Fontainebleau, but which until recently was not taught in driving schools . »
Concretely, this involves taking into account elements of the road, but also other users, to anticipate changes in direction and minimize risks. The bikers were able to benefit from a theoretical course with the presentation of the position on the motorcycle, safety equipment, making turns or the rules to follow to make turns in complete safety.
“The objective is to anticipate as best as possible and to put ourselves in optimal security conditions,” continues the gendarme. Sites had been identified beforehand and the “civilian bikers” then combined theory with practice, with routes on the roads of Seine-et-Marne, under the eye of gendarmerie bikers. Objective: to limit as much as possible the accident rate of motorcyclists, “a population particularly exposed to road accidents. »
New training days planned for 2025
Throughout the year, more than 300 motorcyclists from Seine-et-Marne were able to benefit from advice on the safety route. The gendarmerie will offer new training next year in order to continue raising awareness. Registrations will be offered via the Gendarmerie de la Seine-et-Marne Facebook page.
Unfortunately, accidents involving motorcyclists are legion, with the latest example being the death of a pilot last June. in Serris. This summer, a major control operation was carried out by the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne, to stem mortality among two-wheeler pilots. At the end of July, six motorcyclists lost their lives on the roads of Seine-et-Marne.
