The citizen group Novo Montréal affirmed that the Plante administration’s public transport budget lacks transparency. He also feels he is irrationally invested.

“We can easily say that we have reached a billion dollars just for cycle paths, over a period of 13 years,” calculated Normand Bélair, spokesperson for Novo Montréal, in an interview with Benoit Dutrizac via Qub Radio.

Novo Montréal explains its action in Benoit Dutrizac’s podcast, in Qub:

For him, this total is “put under the carpet” by the town hall. Novo Montréal started 8 years ago with a group of neighbors, but has grown significantly since then. The organization could even transform into a political party, but not in the immediate future.

“I do not pretend to run for municipal elections,” explained Mr. Bélair.

Far from wanting to “set Montreal ablaze”, Novo Montréal wishes to offer solutions to the daily challenges of Montrealers. The movement has a simple principle: listen to citizens, then transmit their priorities to elected officials.

Develop the metro, say goodbye to orange cones, better manage homelessness or even defend French: their complete political program will be revealed in 2025.
