May 9, 10 and 11, 2024 will mark a great moment for Anjou with the inauguration of the 260 km of the European Route d’Artagnan! This route, certified Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, crossing our region, celebrates the European equestrian and cultural heritage. At the heart of this event, Saumur is preparing for a day of festival and unforgettable equestrian shows.

The celebrations will culminate on May 11 in Saumur Val de Loire, in the courtyard of the Château de Saumur. A rich and varied program awaits visitors.

In the city center :

From 10 a.m., the doors of the Cavalry Museum open free of charge to the public for an exceptional day until 5 p.m. A unique opportunity to discover the equestrian heritage of the region. The day continues with a presentation of the work of the equestrian section of the Écoles Militaires de Saumur, followed by carriage rides and a captivating open-air show.

At the Château-Museum of Saumur:

The Château-Musée de Saumur opens its doors from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. to welcome a lively equestrian village. Among the highlights of the day, d’Artagnan Escape Game sessions, pony rides, artistic fencing demonstrations, and much more. Visitors will also have the opportunity to discover a varied exhibition highlighting the equestrian world.

Inauguration ceremony:

At 6:30 p.m., the event will culminate with the official inauguration of the European Route d’Artagnan, in the presence of local elected officials and representatives of tourist organizations. An opportunity to mark this event and celebrate European equestrian heritage.

Additional discoveries:

Apart from the main festivities, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in additional events such as the Matinales du Cadre noir de Saumur and a horseback ride along the banks of the Thouet. In addition, a collection of horse-drawn objects will be exhibited in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent, offering enthusiasts an additional immersion in the equestrian history of the region.

Equestrian village:

The Equestrian Village will be the focal point of the event, offering a lively atmosphere with the presence of exhibitors, designers, artisans and artists, as well as a variety of gourmet stalls showcasing local delicacies, including including the Fine Bubble Houses and the Saumur Wine Union.
