It’s the turn of the Saint-Bruno library to be renovated!

There library Saint-Bruno in Grenoble will be completely renovated to improve its interior spaces and rearrange its furniture. The operation will result in its temporary closure until November 2024. During this period, off-site activities will be maintained, and a temporary library will be set up at the CNAC Store, with a user committee created to collect opinions and suggestions.

Continuation of the “Welcome to the library!”

In 2017, the City of Grenoble launched the “Reading Plan”, later renamed “Welcome to the library! » for the period 2018-2025. This plan aims to promote and diversify the network’s libraries, by making them more accessible and welcoming, in particular by extending opening hours and free services, including those of the Artothèque. At the start of 2024, an improvement in services has already been made with the modernization of the dedicated website, as part of ongoing efforts to broaden access to these cultural spaces.

Libraries by and for residents

Beyond the renovation of libraries (Eaux Claires, Saint-Bruno, Arlequin) or the future Grande Bibliothèque de Chavant designed with residents, Grenoble is taking in-depth action to rethink our relationship with these places. After establishing total free access in 2019, the objective is to strengthen the role of libraries as living spaces, popular and desecrated, open to all for a multitude of cultural activities, access to online resources, or just to have fun.

The Saint-Bruno library is getting a makeover!

The library will be completely renovated and redesigned to improve the user experience. The reception and reading areas will be redesigned for more conviviality, the furniture will be renewed and the collections highlighted. Technical work will also be carried out to ensure the sustainability of the building, in particular the repair of the roof and the modernization of obsolete installations. The library has therefore been closed since April 20 for this work, with a reopening planned for November 2024.

Maintaining activity during the closure period

During the closure period, a temporary library will be set up within the CNAC Store, managed by the teams from the reading relay library and the bookmobile as well as the Saint-Bruno library. From May 15 to June 27, the bookmobile will be available in front of the CNAC Store, while from June 28 to October 20, the “Stars or Storms” exhibition will host reading spaces and collections for all audiences. A user committee has also been set up to collect opinions and suggestions from library residents and users. Librarians remain available in other libraries in the network as well as online to support regulars during this transition period.
