Bladder cancer remains a public health challenge, affecting between 13,000 and 20,000 new people in France each year and causing 5,000 deaths annually. This cancer, which mainly affects men, with a 5% to 80% remission rate, depending on its stage of detection.

An action on the fountains of Toulouse

The lack of awareness around this pathology is problematic. In 80% to 90% of cases, the first symptom is the presence of blood in the urine. A sign which, although visible, often goes unnoticed. It is in this context that Toulouse urologists decided to take impactful action.

Dr. Benjamin Pradere, urologist at the UROSUD center at Clinique La Croix du Sud and member of the AFU bladder oncology committee, emphasizes the importance of awareness: “Bladder cancer is a real health issue public. It is essential to make the warning signs known to the general public. Bladder cancer benefits from new therapeutic and diagnostic advances which give great hope for the future of our patients. »

So, from the beginning of May, emblematic fountains of the city of Toulouse will be adorned with red, symbolizing blood in urine, in order to raise awareness among residents of this scourge. This initiative aims to draw attention to bladder cancer and encourage early detection.

Actions to raise awareness among the general public

In addition to the fountains of Toulouse, concrete actions are also planned to inform and raise public awareness. Stickers placed near the fountains will invite passers-by to find out more about this cancer. In addition, information meetings will be organized, allowing health professionals as well as the general public to better understand the issues linked to this cancer and the therapeutic advances in this area.

Recalling that early detection is crucial for better care, Toulouse urologists hope to see an increase in the chances of survival of patients suffering from this cancer.
