Fight against corruption and promotion of transparency: Senegal benefits from $5 million in support from the United States

Senegal, resolutely committed to the fight against corruption, benefits from the support of the United States of America through a financing program amounting to 5 million dollars.

Senegal’s efforts in the fight against corruption and the promotion of transparency are reinforced by financial support from the United States, implemented through a program of 5 million US dollars.
The announcement was made by the American Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, received in audience by President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, on the sidelines of the United Nations Annual General Assembly. In his speech, the American Secretary of State mentioned the establishment of a $5 million program, financed by USAID, aimed at supporting the efforts of the Senegalese government in the fight against corruption and the promotion of transparency.

According to a press release from the Senegalese presidency: “This support will also consolidate ongoing institutional reforms, with a view to promoting improved governance.” President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and the American Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, subsequently discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the United States and Senegal. According to the same source: “This meeting allowed the two leaders to salute the excellent relations between Senegal and the United States, and to reaffirm their desire to strengthen economic cooperation between the two nations.”

During this interview, the two men also discussed the importance of supporting youth, as well as the need to promote transparency and fight against corruption, while taking into consideration security issues in the Sahel, conflicts in Middle East, as well as other regions of the world.

In terms of governance, the United States reaffirmed its determination to support Senegal in its reforms and its efforts to improve public management. The Senegalese presidency also indicated that other priority sectors of Senegal’s National Transformation Agenda 2050, which will be officially presented on October 7, have been identified as areas of reinforced cooperation between the two countries. These include the digital sector, with the “Technological New Deal”, as well as the areas of agriculture and industrialization.
