In Senegal, one thousand five hundred hectares of village irrigated areas in the Matam region are being rehabilitated by the Agricultural Development and Rural Entrepreneurship Support Program (PADAER 2), according to the coordinator of the said program.

If we rely on Baboye Sada Ly, “today, we are in the process of rehabilitating 1,500 hectares of PIV which were abandoned with the National Society for the Development and Exploitation of Lands of the Senegal River Delta and Valleys of the Senegal and Falémé rivers (SAED) in order to be able to go into the countryside.

Speaking during a PADAER 2 coordination and harmonization meeting, he also pointed out that “processing hubs are also being set up for rural women who will process local products” .

He also indicated that “players in the livestock sector will also have their part with gathering places and livestock storage stores”.

Mr. Ly reported that PADAER 2 is working on the implementation of quarterly planning between May and July, in order to carry out various activities for the populations.

The coordinator of the Agricultural Development and Rural Entrepreneurship Support Program added that “our mission consists of quarterly planning with implementation partners, namely vocational training centers, regional water inspectorate and forests (IREF), regional development agencies (ARD) and consular chambers”.

This planning will allow the structure “to have a view over a quarter in order to know the activities that will be carried out for the populations”, he explained.

He pointed out that as part of the rehabilitation of village irrigated areas (PIV), this planning takes into account the Senegal River Delta Land Development and Exploitation Company (SAED).

“This will allow us to have an idea of the state of progress of the various infrastructures, but also to plan over time for the sustainability and functionality of the latter,” added Baboye Sada Ly.

He returned to the results of PADAER 2 actions since 2019 in the Matam region.

The Coordinator cited in this regard the creation of firebreaks by IREF, the creation of platforms, the provision of watering troughs and water towers to breeders in the three departments of the region: Kanel, Matam , Ranérou.
