The population of Gouye Mouride (Rufisque), civil society actors and the market gardeners of Lendeng came out massively on Sunday to protect the agroecological zone of Lendeng. These market gardeners oppose the grabbing of agricultural land by real estate developers. They call on the authorities.

“The State of must resolve this nebulous situation at the level of Lendeng because people with ill intentions have shared the cake, thinking of making this site disappear, which ecologically supports the populations who stood up to say no to the disappearance of Lendeng . It’s our green lung. And we tell all these people who shared this site to stop. The people of Colobane Gouye Mouride say no,” declared Pape Konaté, president of the Lendeng market gardeners collective.

“We are launching an appeal to the State of Senegal through its dismemberments, firstly the Prefect. They call on him to resolve the Lendeng problem. We started with a peaceful march and tomorrow it will be for something else. These authorities must listen to us and put this problem on the table,” he said.

Originally, these market gardeners had been opposing for several weeks the construction of a gas station and a football field in the middle of their fields, an area declared a non-aedificandi (non-buildable) zone by the former President Macky Sall for three years.
