Wednesday May 1, on the occasion of Labor Day, the departmental inter-union made up of the CGT, CFDT, FSU and Unsa is organizing five large rallies to demand workers’ rights.
According to Sud-Ouest, the first gathering will take place at 10 a.m. on the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville in La Rochelle.
In other towns in the department
The other four gatherings will begin at 10:30 a.m.:
- In Rochefort, on Place Colbert,
- At the Saintes Courthouse,
- In Royan, Place Charles-de-Gaulle,
- In Jonzac, at the Public Garden.
Tribute to the militants who fell for France
In addition to the rallies, a commemoration in honor of the activists who died for France is planned at noon at the Lagord stele (119 Bis, rue des Gonthières). This ceremony is coordinated by the Departmental Union of Charente-Maritime and the local CGT Union of La Rochelle and its surroundings.
Opening reception and celebration
Also on the program, the opening of an exhibition will retrace the history of the CGT departmental Union in Charente-Maritime, as well as the celebration of 80 years of the CNR (National Council of the Resistance) program. All town halls of La Rochelle and Lagord, trade union organizations and activists from Charente-Maritime are invited to this event.
