Philippe Close, mayor of the city of Brussels
The mayor of the City of Brussels, Philippe Close, is leading a bilingual socialist list in this municipal election. The alderman for Public Education, Faouzia Hariche is second, followed by Mohamed Ouriaghli, the federal minister Karine Lalieux and the alderman for Population Ahmed El Ktibi. The head of the list Philippe Close underlined that the PS and Vooruit sections had also focused on youth with candidates under 30 years old.
In June, the socialist Philippe Close, who had nevertheless been elected to the Chamber, announced that he would not occupy his seat and therefore did not take the oath on July 4. “I have always been clear that I wanted to remain mayor of our capital.” Indeed, the mayor of Brussels would have had to relinquish his mandate as mayor if he took the oath as deputy, in accordance with the rules of full decumulation in force in the Brussels Region.
