Mbour, April 26 (APS) – The disclosure of beneficial owners, the protection of whistleblowers and the next law on access to information will help strengthen transparency and good governance in the extractive sector, said Friday Papa Fara Diallo, president of the Senegalese section of the “Publish What You Pay” Coalition.

“All these measures announced by the new government, in particular the disclosure of beneficial owners, the protection of whistleblowers and the upcoming law on access to information, will contribute to strengthening transparency and good governance in the sector extractive,” said Papa Fara Diallo.

The President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye raised in his speech to the nation on April 3 the idea of ​​“protection of whistleblowers and disclosure of beneficial owners of real ownership”.

“We welcome the first decisions of the newly elected authorities (…), because this is the direction we must take,” he rejoiced during a two-day workshop, intended to strengthen the capacities of members of civil society and media actors, on the fight against corruption and budgetary control.

“These are strong signals that are being sent and that civil society supports,” added this civil society actor.

He underlines the importance of fighting corruption effectively and passing a law protecting whistleblowers, but also encouraging the disclosure of beneficial owners.

Mouhamed Ayib Daffé, deputy and president of the committee of delegations to the national assembly, stressed that “all these initiatives demonstrate the desire of the new authorities to fight fiercely against corruption, to promote good governance and transparency”.

He assures that “the National Assembly will support these initiatives and measures, so that natural resources and in particular oil, mining and gas resources can (benefit) the Senegalese populations”.
