A month and a half after the French cross-country championships at Cap’Découverte, the Department draws very positive results for the local economy.

This April 25, at the end of the afternoon, before a reception given in honor of the volunteers, the president of the departmental council Christophe Ramond and the president of the French Athletics Federation, André Giraud, took stock of the last French championships, where they were held last March, at Cap Découverte.

“We can only be satisfied,” says Christophe Ramond. And for good reason, with more than 20,000 spectators present over two days, the Tarn edition shatters the previous record of 15,000 spectators established in last year. A coup that has an impact on the financial results. The Department estimates that it had an impact of 2 million euros for the local economy. For €100,000 invested.

“It took arms, a lot of arms”

Like many events, it is the action of volunteers that made these French championships possible. This Thursday evening, Maurice Gamel, Eric Albert, Joël Olivier, Claude Martin, Claudine Loisel, Alian Masviel and Florian Bouleau received a departmental medal of honor for their contribution to the associative and sporting life of the department. Seven medalists who symbolize the commitment of the 400 volunteers present during these French championships.

“One thing is certain, we are in a land of athletics” rejoices André Giraud, who is traveling to all weekend to participate in the general assembly of the French athletics federation. The president recalls that the episcopal city will also host the French U18-U20-U23 Championships. It will be from July 19 to 21 at the Stadium… One week before the start of the Olympic Games.
