The first round of Interclubs will have the merit of launching the summer season. Last week’s departmentals, which arrived very early in the year, will not have allowed the Mayennais to warm up their points. But that will be the case this weekend, even if the high-level athletes will only support their club in the second round, on May 12.

This is the case of Laura Salin-Eyike, Charles Renard, Merlin Silvéri or even Adrien Le Richomme for the EANM, of Sounkamba Sylla for Laval or even of Gabriel Bordier for Saint-Berthevin.

Dealing with the athletes present

This year, the five Mayennais clubs are in the same hat. A godsend for Christelle Quentin, the head of the athletics section in Cossé-le-Vivien, who competes in the Region. “It is the objective for our young people to compete with national level athletes. They are impatiently awaiting this moment: time for pleasure! ».

Same story for Hugo Sisternes, the captain of the Berthevinoise house, also in the Region. “We will not be complete, that’s clear (he himself is injured, sprained). And it’s a competition where he will have a lot of adjustments. But pleasure remains our priority”.

Especially since this first round of interclubs is not obligatory. It is therefore difficult to deal with athletes, who are still in the physical preparation phase. “We made choices, says Steeven Petitpas, the coach of the Entente Lavalloise. I think that Sousou (Sylla) will be absent on both tours, so that she can devote herself to the Olympic Games. The choice of date doesn’t necessarily suit us, so we’ll make do with it.” Do with it, or without it, that’s a bit like the feeling of Eric Gicqueau, the Castrogontien coach: “I don’t know how we’re going to find athletes? We’re going to make do with what we have, like every year in the first round.”

Finally, on the side of EA Nord Mayenne, the organizing club, Guillaume Bar, the president, is also very patient: “It’s only the first round. We will have quite a few absentees, we will rely on our young people to best prepare for the second round where we will be complete. Interclubs remain a party, whatever happens.”
