The Departmental Council has no obligation to support farmers, but has decided to create plans to help them in their work. These are notably monitored by Marie-Louise Donzel, Vice-President for Agriculture.

What can the Department do for farmers?

We have a very proactive policy in terms of agriculture with plans of different types. This concerns cattle, goats, fishing, viticulture and forestry. We have completed all these plans in 2023.

How does this translate into the numbers?

For operations, we voted an annual budget of 3.3 million euros to help agricultural organizations operate and 5.3 million in investment. In total, with the budget allocated to sensitive natural areas, we are approaching 10 million euros. Since 2023, the budget has therefore doubled compared to previous years. This is the president’s wish.

Agriculture in the mountains is different from that in the plains, how can we support breeders?

This includes plans for cattle and goats. We support mountain pasture farmers with investments to improve their working conditions. This is important because we have nearly 59,000 hectares of mountain pastures and more than 1,000 pastoral units. In total, since 1975, more than 20 million euros in subsidies have been sent to pastoral land associations (AFP).
