On Friday, September 13, 2024, a man was arrested by the police in Castres while he was driving 61 km/h. While the maximum authorized speed is 25 km/h on this type of motor vehicle.

And that’s not the only offence committed by this reckless driver. He wasn’t wearing a helmet. And at that speed, on a scooter, the consequences could have been terrible.

Beyond the particular behavior of this user, this verbalization reminds us that many rules sometimes unknown regulate the use of electric scooters. Such as the obligation to have civil liability insurance (including self-service scooters).

On Monday, September 16, in Albi, another driver paid the price. While he was “poorly positioned on a roundabout”the police stopped him. And checked his papers. He was finally reminded of the order for lack of insurance. This insurance covers damage caused to others (injury to a pedestrian, material damage to another vehicle, etc.).

Another little-known rule is that the machine cannot carry several people at the same time. If you do not respect this obligation, you risk a fine of €135. You must also wear reflective equipment if you are driving at night or if visibility is poor during the day.

Your machine must be equipped with a braking system, an audible warning device, lights (front and rear) and rear and side reflective devices.

As for traffic, it is happening priority on cycle paths. In the absence of cycle paths, you can ride on roads with a maximum speed of 50 km/h. Riding on sidewalks is prohibited unless the mayor authorizes it. In this case, you must ride at a moderate speed. (6 km/h) and not to disturb pedestrians.
