For François Bayrou, it was not the NFP that won but the Republican Front

It is far from being an obligation for François Bayrou“Those who say that there is a winner in this election know very well that they are talking nonsense, it is not true.”castigated the leader of the Democratic Movement (MoDem). For François Bayrou, the arrival in first position of the NFP was made on the anti-RN and the reactivation of the Republican Front and not on the program of the left. “These were votes that said (that) French democracy cannot be dominated by a majority of the extremes”he stressed.
“The main obstacle is their program”he stressed, dismissing the question of people. “The end of all regulation of immigration. (…) The end of the texts that have been adopted over the last seven years to strengthen the resources of the police on security issues. (…) We will immediately restore full birthright citizenship, which has never existed in France…”he said.
For the leader of the MoDem, Emmanuel Macron should not have negotiated with the parties. “It’s a method error”he said. “Everyone – I don’t include myself in the everyone – includes themselves in this method of countries that seek coalitions with proportional voting (…). This is not the French Constitution.”For François Bayrou, the president must appoint a prime minister who appoints a government. “and then the National Assembly takes its responsibilities”.

The mayor of Pau did not rule out the idea of going to Matignon himself if Emmanuel Macron suggested it to him. “I don’t want to get into that discussion, did he dismiss. (…) My opinion is that it can be improved.”
