Between two worlds.
This is the exciting soap opera that punctuates the French football season in the European Cups: would France be able to keep its 5e place in the UEFA index? Some leaders were worried, they have been reassured for a while and are undoubtedly a little more so since this fruitful week. After the qualifications of PSG and OM in the semi-finals (and even the victory of LOSC against Aston Villa on the return leg), the gap widens a little further between France (66,664 points) and its two rivals, the Netherlands (61,300 points) and Portugal (56,316 points). In summary, at the dawn of the new formula for European competitions, everything is going better for France, which is even getting a little head start for next season.
Italy, for its part, presents itself as the big winner. With its three representatives in the last four (AS Roma, Atalanta and Fiorentina), it is guaranteed to be the country to collect the most points this season (19,428 currently), which allows 5e of Serie A to be sent to the Champions League in 2024-2025. With the increase from 32 to 36 clubs in the group stage, two new places are offered to the best performing countries over the previous year. This will probably be too fair for France (16,083 points), which is ahead of Spain (15,312), but quite far behind England (17,375) and Germany (17,928), favorite to win the second golden ticket .
