High-end “hyper-resistant” mountain bikes “made in France”: this is what the company Bucefal Cycles Industries (BCI) in Ponlat-Taillebourg, near Saint-Gaudens (31), offers.
The president of the region, Carole Delga, inaugurated the very young company this Thursday, which is part of the regional bicycle plan.
“Bikes more French than ours, it’s impossible” says Dominique Luce, it was he who created Bucefal Cycles Industries (BCI) in Ponlat-Taillebourg, to produce high-end mountain bikes. And it was he who also presented his company this Thursday. Alongside Carole Delga, he would inaugurate his 2,000 square meters of workshop. And since Occitanie loves cycling and “made in France”, he proclaims it loud and clear: his “bikes are French”. Of course Carbonne is not national, but it is cut into France. And everything else is “from us”.
For an hour, the designer and business manager led the visit and explained the entire production circuit of his creations, the “unique in the world” technique used, the creation of “17 wax molds per model”, the “seven layers of carbon – when others are satisfied with 3 or 4 layers – 5 at best”…
In all sincerity, he regrets that his biggest competitors prefer to cut corners on quality to sell at all costs. Its prices are relatively high – above €5,000 – but it is the price to pay for cycling excellence, to have “bicycle frames that are hyper-resistant to all shocks, to all jumps”.
All the pride of the creator, with the modesty of the user: “It’s not the bike that makes the champion”… But it can help.
Bike plan
With support from BCI (to the tune of €150,000), the region already likes this company which is relaunching bicycle production in France and fits perfectly into its “Vélo Vallée” cluster – the 70 companies in the region involved in the sector. bike.
“The development of this sector is a priority of our relocation strategy in Occitanie” indicates Carole Delga. “Our objective is to respond to new uses and place Occitanie at the head of the race in the assembly of bicycles Made in France. To achieve this, the region encourages the establishment of companies which contribute to the reconquest of our sovereignty industrial and economic.
100M€ are planned to finance the Regional Bicycle Plan which aims to participate in the development of low-carbon mobility: creation of cycle paths, assistance with the acquisition of bicycles, loan of bicycles to high school students, creation of a bicycle rental service in stations are on the menu of this program.
