AJS Colleville-Ouistreham achieved the feat of the 1/16 finals of the Cup, this , May 1, 2024. The Dylan players eliminated Bayeux, to which they nevertheless returned two divisions. Trailing since the end of the first half, the Ouistrehamais turned the situation around at the very end of the , thanks to goals from Baptiste Guyonnet and Antonin Lamare (2-1)

In the previous round at Saint-Désir, Ouistreham equalized in the final minutes before taking a winning penalty shootout. This time, the Pêqueux did even better since they scored two goals at the very end of the match which qualified them directly for the 1/8 finals.

Bayeux opens the score and falls asleep

Dylan Orange’s players did not steal their qualification in the sense that their victory was obtained by respecting the rules but it should never have escaped the men of the Mazure/Fournier duo. The difference in the game between a good Regional 1 team and its Regional 3 opponent was quite obvious for 85 minutes but the last ten minutes were fatal to the supposedly superior team. The cup finally rewarded a tenacious, united team not devoid of technical qualities.

By opening the score just before half-time thanks to a beautiful header from Pierre-Mickael Anquetil unstoppably taking a cross from Romain Guillotte (41st), the Bajocasses believed that they had done the hardest part and that it would be enough to drive the point home the break. The reality is that they never managed to make the break despite many favorable situations. No doubt due to a lack of conviction, perhaps a little too much complacency, they left the locals in the match. And it is well known that in football, as long as there is only one goal difference, anything can happen.

The stick blow that hurts the BFC

In the last quarter of an hour, we felt Benjamin Mathan’s teammates ready to make a last stand. Lost for lost, you might as well do it with panache, right? And it paid off beyond the wildest expectations. It was first of all Baptiste Guyonnet who made a slalom in the Bayeux area before slipping the ball out of reach of Yanis Saillot (1-1, 85th) then Antonin Lamare jumped higher than his opponents to divert a ball under the bar precise free kick from Nicolas Stonina (2-1, 91st).

The extra five minutes seemed interminable for the Ouistrehamais stuck to their goal. After a few hotly contested corners, the Yellows and Blues could rejoice, qualification was in their pocket.
