A man struggling with mental health issues allegedly killed his mother Sunday morning in his home in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, on the South Shore of Montreal.

A call was made to 911 around 9:15 a.m. indicating that a person died in a residence on rue des Pins.

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police officers dispatched to the scene then discovered an inanimate body inside the house.

According to our information, it would be Judith Igreda, 67 years old. His death was recorded at the Haut-Richelieu hospital.

The victim had been a nurse for many years at this hospital center located a few kilometers from her home.

“She was very nice, she did her business at home,” said her rear neighbor, Pierrette Dyotte.

Arrest

The police arrested Joël Brosseau, the victim’s son, at the scene of the murder.

The 43-year-old man has significant mental health issues, including schizophrenia, we learned. He also has a criminal history of fraud.

Brosseau will appear Monday morning by videoconference at the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu courthouse and is expected to face a murder charge.

Since the beginning of the year, two other people struggling with mental health problems are said to have fatally attacked their parents.

In mid-February, Amel Benali, 26, allegedly stabbed his mother to death in their accommodation in Villeray, Montreal. The accused has a psychiatric history and would be suffering from schizophrenia, according to our information.
