After Vancouver and Toronto, the Guide Michelin restaurants will arrive in Quebec, to the great joy of the tourism industry which has been in discussions with the gastronomic tourism giant for several months.

“The province of Quebec has been under Michelin’s radar for some time thanks to the quality of its culinary scene in addition to the density of restaurants […]”That they chose to come and settle here is major,” rejoices the and CEO of the Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Québec, Geneviève Cantin.

In recent months, the Alliance has been in discussions with the French company to convince it to dedicate a guide to Quebec, at the request of restaurateurs and hoteliers in the province.

To make the deal happen, the federal government will pay $450,000 over three years to “promote and market” this directory of restaurants and hotels, often described as “prestigious.”

Industry hopes for big returns

Even though she admits that the economic fallout from the arrival of the Guide Michelin have not been quantified, the CEO of the Tourism Industry Alliance estimates that they will be “enormous”.

“Partnering with one of the biggest gastronomic players in the world is a major win,” she said. “For the government, the economic benefits of tourism are major in general, and our promotional activities are working well.”

This will be the third Guide Michelin in Canada, following those of the cities of Vancouver and Toronto. This is the first time that a directory of this kind will cover an entire Canadian province. The guide will be launched in spring 2025.

As a reminder, this publication is a directory of gastronomic addresses from around the world, which awards stars to certain restaurants in addition to granting “Bib gourmands” to more casual tables. When the guide dedicated to Toronto was launched in 2022, 13 establishments were awarded stars.

This guide is only printed for France and Italy, and only has the form of a website and an application for the other regions.
