It was the first major royal wedding Amalia had attended as an adult. The 19-year-old heiress had already attended the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden in 2010. Amalia was only 6 years old and she had been requisitioned to take on the role of child of honor.

For the past few months, the young heiress, who is studying at university, has been participating in large-scale royal events. To participate in the wedding reception and banquet, Princess Amalia wore the ruby tiara in the shape of peacock feathers. The structure of the tiara was made in 1897 by Schürmann during the reign of Queen Wilhelmina by adding rubies which already belonged to Queen Sophie, who died in 1877. The central element in the shape of a peacock’s tail is detachable and can be worn separately.

The tiara was passed down from Queen Wilhelmina to one of her granddaughters, Princess Irene, one of Beatrix’s sisters, but it seems the jewel has once again become the property of the Queen. One of Queen Maxima’s most notable first appearances with this tiara was at the state banquet in Oman in 2012. She has also worn it for state dinners in Poland and Canada. The queen also sometimes wears it as a brooch or as a necklace.

This marriage was a way for the family to include the other royal families in this union between the two future rulers of Jordan. By marrying Crown Prince Hussein, Rajwa became Crown Princess. They will one day become King and Queen of Jordan, just as Catharina-Amalia will succeed her father in due course, probably after his abdication, as is traditional in the Netherlands.
