“The photo was a communication tool for him”: diving into the intimacy of Victor Hugo in exile in Jersey

Having become a political opponent, Victor Hugo went into exile with his family to Belgium. Forced to leave the Flat Country in 1852, after the publication of “Napoléon le Petit”, the poet decided to reach the Channel Island of Jersey and settle with his wife and children in a house called “Marine Terrace”, where he lived until 1855. It was here that, through one of his sons, he discovered photography.
