Paul Viel Prize 2025 at Paris-Vincennes: Golden Gio continues

Carried by the fans Italians, present – already – in number in the bays of this Saturday, Golden Gio confirmed. Three weeks after his victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Gr. II), this competitor of Italian origin takes the Prix Paul Viel (Gr. II), an event which has often smiled on the transalpines in recent years (Elton Wise in 2023 or even Deus Zack in 2022). Long seen in a waiting position, then brought closer to less than 1,000 meters from the finish, this son of Face Time Bourbon came to the height of Mack de Blaryhost, in the final turn, before showing his superiority (1’14”4).

“Next to Mack de Blary, I was trotting”

We take the same ones, and we start again! Sébastien Guarato, the man of the day in the temple of trotting, signs here a third group victory, including two for Scuderia Bivans and with Matthieu Abrivard as driver. The latter returned to this success at the microphone of Hugo Carot: “The other day, Marco Smorgon, his Italian coach, was a little worried about the distance. He was afraid that the 2,100 meters would be a little short. Today, the 2,700 meters worried me less. Sébastien Guarato, who recovered it, had good feelings at work.”

A good omen for today’s race. “I let my horse do it, continues the driver. When his trainer told me that in the morning he was climbing hills well, you don’t worry too much. I went out early, but when I found myself next to Mack de BlaryI was going at a small trot.” Close to the maternal lineage of the champion Vivid Wise As (his mother Zed Wise As is the full sister of the 22 times group I winner), Golden Gio puts the best tricolors of the generation under his belt for the second time in a row. For his debut at this level of the competition, Master Jacques takes second place. Maestro River et Mack de Blary second place is shared.
