Valerio Grond signed the best Swiss performance on Saturday in the skating sprint at Silvaplana. Le Grison placed 4th on “his” snow, lacking energy in the final.
Fifth in the Dobbiaco sprint at the end of December at the opening of the Tour de Ski, Valerio Grond mastered his subject tactically in the Engadine. Convincing 5th in the prologue in the morning, he won his quarter-final before snatching the 2nd “lucky loser” ticket awarded at the end of the semi-finals.
But the Grison did not manage to interfere in the fight for places on the podium in the final. He conceded 5”03 to the winner and big favorite, the Norwegian Johannes Hösflot Klaebo, missing the top-3 by almost 3 seconds.
Second in the prologue, Janik Riebli (9th) got stuck in the semi-finals, just like Alina Meier (10th) among the ladies. A top-10 nevertheless constitutes a good result for them. On the other hand, Nadine Fähndrich (17th) disappointed by being eliminated in the quarter-finals. The Lucernoise had given everything on Friday to offer the Swiss mixed relay a good 3rd place.
