Télématin: what the France 2 show has in store for its 40th anniversary

On January 10, 85, it was 7 a.m. when William Leymergie presented the first edition of Telematinin a living room setting. “Madam, miss, sir, hello! How are you ? By that I mean: I hope you slept well!”. It is with these few words that the co-founder of the program launched Antenne 2’s very first morning show, modeled on the model of the legendary Today Show American broadcast on NBC. “It was a unique inclusive format In says music columnist Alex Jaffray, has a time when television cultivated a distance between people on and people in front of TV”. Information, weather, press reviews but also culture, travel, sport and daily life have been part of the program’s DNA since its creation. “Télématin is my friend Ricoré! We are the breakfast friends of the French for 40 years” confides Design columnist Sylvie Adigard, present since 91. “We are often told that by looking Telematin, viewers get information and then go to work or go about their business, fully pumped up for the daysays Damien Thevenot, presenter of Telematin weekend with Maya Lauqué since 2021, and arrived on the show in 1999 as a columnist. What a nice compliment!”. William Leymergie is far from being the only one to have embodied the program. And the list is long! Julien Lepers (1986-1987), Roger Zabel (1987-1989) Catherine Ceylac and Marc Autheman (diaries 1988-1989), Mady Tran (1989), Laurent Bignolas (2017-2021), Julia Vignali (2021-2023) Marie Portolano (2023-2024), Thomas Sotto (from August 23 2021 to August 8, 2024). Just like those of the replacements: Patrick Simpson-Jones (1985-1987) Sophie Davant (1988-1991) Thierry Beccaro (1987-2019) or even Laurent Romejko (1998-2012).

Guest “fans” of the program

On the occasion of this anniversary, France2 will offer three hours of broadcast on February 6 to return to the genesis of Telematin and tell his story. Flavie Flament, Julien Arnaud, Maya Lauqué and Damien Thévenot will co-present this special, peppered with “cult” sequences. “This longevity is infinitely pleasing and at the same time commands respect.comments Damien Thévenot. Pleasure because it proves that the bonds we have forged with our viewers last over time and are solid despite the competition. And respect because there are not that many TV shows that can boast of having lasted for 40 years. I often see myself back years ago when I was a student, in front of my TV, and I never missed a single Telematin before going to college. Years later, it’s me who has the chance to be in the position and to play one of the faces of a show that has become a reference the presenter is moved. And if in addition, just after the live broadcast, while walking my dog, viewers give me a little knowing wave in the street or quote me a piece of article that they obviously liked an hour earlier, I tell myself that the magic of Télématin still operates”.

I almost met all my musical heroes thanks to Télématin”

A former presenter will join them on the set, surrounded by guests who are fans of the show and chroniclers from the beginning…or almost! “I arrived 24 years ago and it feels like it was last week.” s’amuse Alex Jaffray. “I have been present on Télématin for almost 30 yearssays Philippe Collignon, Gardening columnist. I think, looking back, that it’s a show that’s been passed down from generation to generation. She has evolved over the years to adapt to changes in society. And even if you have to get up very early and sometimes go to bed late, the days follow each other but are not alike.Don’t!” Everyone remembers a memorable moment. I almost met all my musical heroes thanks to Télématin, with Ennio Morricone at the top of the list.” marvels Alex Jaffray. For Philippe Collignon, in a completely different register, “these are thehe attacks of September 11, 2001. From one day to the next, the entire production team and all the columnists, despite the unprecedented violence of the situation, managed to deal with this news day after day. Télématin is good humor but also responsiveness. Appointment in 40 years!”.
