The comedian announced, this Tuesday, January 21, the opening of a comedy club in the Old Port of the Marseille city. This place, called Vig’s, will mix stand-up, catering and music.
Gad Elmaleh invests in Marseille. With two childhood friends, the comedian opened Vig’s, a comedy club offering catering and musical entertainment. Located at 15 quai de Rive Neuve, on the Old Port, the establishment will officially open its doors this Friday, January 24.
“It’s the culmination of many things and a great way to pass it on to the new generation,” declares the comedian to La Provence.
Prioritize local talent
Le Vig’s has a terrace with around a hundred seats and a room that can accommodate sixty guests. The part dedicated to comedy will be able to accommodate around a hundred spectators. It should initially open twice a week.
During these days, comedic talents will be able to come and rub shoulders with the stage of this new establishment.
“We are going to give priority to local artists. Talents are growing every day without yet being known,” underlines Gad Elmaleh to Provence.
“We therefore surrounded ourselves with people who do the programming with us and who know the Marseille scene well,” he adds.
To set up this place, Gad Elmaleh was particularly inspired by the Jamel Comedy Club. “Jamel was the first to set up a comedy club. Moreover, for this reason, this word is very often associated with him in France,” concedes to Provence the comedian who recently bought the Michou cabaret in Paris.
-“What I dream of is walking into Vig’s in the middle of the afternoon and seeing comedians writing,” he breathes.
Invited personalities from Marseille
For several years, Gad Elmaleh has managed to forge a link with the city of Marseille. As proof, his last show was sold out four evenings in a row last April in the Marseille city.
For the opening of Vig’s, the Casablanca native can also count on the support of Redouane Bougheraba, the headliner of Marseille humor.
“Redouanne supports us a lot, he sent me a photo this morning and he is going to come and play at Vig’s,” assures Provence, Gad Elmaleh.
In addition to Redouane Bougheraba, Gad Elmaleh hopes to attract the Marseille idol: Zinédine Zidane to his establishment.
“I invited Zidane there by telling him ‘I know that you are in demand everywhere, but you are a legend’, he has not yet responded!”, the comedian concludes with La Provence.
