Dor several years, actress Wendy Nieto has appeared in several films and series such as “Les Filles de Feu”, “Scènes de Households” and “Bellefond”. We find her in a new episode of the latter on Tuesday January 21 broadcast on France 3.
Where are you from and how did you get into acting?
I was born in Lyon but grew up in Chambéry in Savoie. It all started when I was 16. I was bored, didn’t know what to do during the summer vacation and above all I didn’t want to go away with my parents. So my father placed a catalog of vacation trips in front of me and said: “You choose a camp and that’s it.” I saw that there was a colony on the theme of cinema and I said to myself “why not”. It was a click. We learned to write, to tour and when I found myself acting, I told myself that this was what I wanted to do. So I did improv theater in Chambéry for three years and then at 19, a year after the baccalaureate, I said to myself ”well come on, I’m going to Paris”. I did odd jobs and in the evening I took acting classes.
What was your journey afterwards?
I met my first agent but I thought it was too early, that I hadn’t learned enough yet, and yet I started to get noticed at castings. My first film was “Polisse” (2011) by Maïwenn then I followed up with “Crapuleuses” (2011) by Magaly Richard Serrano which will remain for the moment as my best role. I played a very complex, dark gang leader, a skinned soul.
And you found Magaly Richard Serrano for the series “Les fille du feu” filmed in the Basque Country. What do you remember from this shoot?
It was very intense because, at that time, I was filming “Bellefond” in Marseille at the same time and I was traveling back and forth a lot between the Basque Country and the South-East. It was the first time I shot a period series and found myself in a corset. I have very good memories of it.
You play Camille in “Bellefond”. Tell us about your character?
She is a young law student who is extremely committed to defending people. She loves to investigate. she’s a bit of a geek and she breaks the rules on her computer. She doesn’t hesitate to pretend to be someone else to get information, which gets her into some trouble. She also tends to put herself in the place of the victims or even the suspects a lot.
We also see you alongside Gérard Hernandez in “Scènes de households” on M6?
Indeed, I play Stella. It’s great to shoot with Gérard. We didn’t know if our pairing was going to work, and in the end it worked really well. We have a lot of fun.
And you just had a baby. Isn’t that too complicated for your job?
It’s scary, yes. But I was lucky enough to be able to continue working while pregnant, to resume very quickly after giving birth. I want to make women understand that it is possible to combine all of this, that motherhood is not a barrier.
