Actor Brad Pitt reacted to the story of Anne, a French woman scammed by a crook who pretended to be him, and urged his fans not to respond “to any requests”.
The story of this French woman scammed by a man who pretended to be Brad Pitt reached the ears of the actor, who reacted to Entertainment Weekly magazine.
“It is unfortunate that scammers are taking advantage of fans’ strong connection to celebrities,” a spokesperson for Brad Pitt said.
“But this is an important reminder not to respond to unsolicited online requests, especially from actors who do not have a social media presence.”
Anne, a 53-year-old French woman, was fooled by a scammer who pretended to be the American actor and who took from him, in several installments, the sum of 830,000 euros. The man, who had established a letter-writing relationship with Anne, made her believe that they had a romantic relationship. He was able to be so convincing that Anne, at first incredulous, ended up falling into the trap.
Wave of harassment
“There are so few men who write you this kind of thing. I liked the man I was talking to. He knew how to talk to women, it was always very well spoken,” she testified in the show Seven to eightbroadcast Sunday January 12 on TF1.
This program shed new light on this affair, and sparked a wave of harassment against Anne. TF1 even decided to remove the report from its platforms.
Anne regretted on the Youtube channel of host Guillaume Pley, Legend, the treatment of her story in the show Seven to eightwhich above all highlights his naivety.
“I am not crazy or stupid as some people claim (…) In my place you would have fallen into the trap,” she assures.
She adds: “I was indeed fooled, I admit it and that’s why I testified because I am not the only one in this situation.”
Two women defrauded in Spain
This is in fact not the first time that a scammer has used Brad Pitt’s image. In September 2024, two women were defrauded of 325,000 euros by five men impersonating actor Brad Pitt. They have since been arrested.
In the latter case, the suspects came into contact with their alleged victims on a website intended for fans of the actor. Over time, they managed to make them believe “that they had a romantic relationship with him”.
Brad Pitt is not present on social networks. He does not have any official or personal account on X or Instagram.
