We’re going to shiver in Questembert. The Froid polar festival returns, for the tenth edition, from January 19 to February 16. Investigations, crimes, victims, suspects, sometimes black humor will be enjoyed. The association Have you read it? offers a selection of second-hand books, detectives and thrillers at free prices, on sale in the lobby of the Iris cinema.
An interactive thriller
“The Cold Thriller is gaining more and more importance in cinema programming. For this edition, we are strengthening the partnership with the media library, which offers four activities, including an interactive thriller,” indicates Jean-Christophe Monneau, director of Iris.
Six films, divided into six categories, are offered by the Froid polar group. The sessions are accompanied by speakers and gender specialists for meetings.
The historical thriller
The historical thriller, new to this edition, draws on the themes of previous editions, replacing the little-known thriller. “So little known that we were struggling. And the historical thriller gives us more margin in our choice of films,” underlines Cathy Riou of the Froid Polar group.
The festival will begin on Sunday January 19 at 5 p.m. with the thriller The Mark of Angels (2013). “An excellent novel written by Jean-Christophe Grangé, published in 2008, known among others for Les Rivières pourpres,” explains Franck Cairou, coordinator of Froid polar. The session is accompanied by Anne Rebout, history teacher at Lesage high school in Vannes. The novel is available at the media library.
Sunday January 26, it’s time for contemporary thrillers, with the film They shot the piano player. “An ode to jazz and a political thriller,” says Frank Cairou. As an introduction, Jean-Claude Capillon, musician, will perform bossa nova pieces.
Sunday, February 2, will be offered a masterpiece, the film In Fourth Speed. The session is accompanied by a videoconference hosted by Nicolas Tellop, editor-in-chief of the BD and Seventh Obsession notebooks.
Sunday February 9, it’s time for the crazy thriller with the film Chicago, which won six Oscars. A cabaret atmosphere will be offered with the magician Amazing Georges, who will welcome the spectators.
Wednesday February 12, focus on teenagers with the film The Girl with the Bracelet (2020). The screening is followed by an exchange with Brigitte, Bernard, from the Froid polar group.
The name of the rose
And the last category is that of historical thriller, the novelty. Sunday, February 16, at 5 p.m., with the film The Name of the Rose, headliner in Froid Polar. “We already wanted it last year but we didn’t manage to get it.” With Sean Connery, Christian Slater, Helmut Qualtinger. The religious system in the Middle Ages will be presented. After the film, spectators will be invited to a time around a medieval buffet.
