Two Quebecers find themselves in the top 15 of the mid-season rankings of the Central Recruiting Center of the National Hockey League (NHL) unveiled Tuesday.

Forwards Caleb Desnoyers, of the Moncton Wildcats, and Justin Carbonneau, of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, appear in seventh and 13th places respectively.

Defender Matthew Schaefer, whose portrait TVA Sports painted for you at the beginning of December, sits at the top of the rankings. Schaefer, who injured his neck during the World Junior Championship with Canada, is often compared to Cale Makar.

American prodigy James Hagens, who just won gold at the WJC, follows in second place. Ontario League (OHL) standout player Michael Misa rounds out the top 3.

Ontario power forward Porter Martone, fourth, and 6’5″ center Roger McQueen, fifth and sidelined for several weeks due to injury, will also be ones to watch in this race for the first place in the draft.

A third Quebecer is being considered as a first-round choice by Centrale, namely Bill Zonnon, right winger for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. The Montreal native has amassed 58 points, including 23 goals, so far this season.

As for Émile Guité, expected to be a first-round pick in the preliminary lists, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens striker must settle for 61st place.

Furthermore, we note the presence of Manon Rhéaume’s son, University of Michigan defender Dakoda Mullen-Rhéaume, in 57th place. That of Adrian Aucoin, Cameron, a fullback from Muskegon in the USHL, appears at 203rd level.

Four goalkeepers in the top-10

Quebec also does very well in terms of the goalkeeper position. No less than four local athletes occupy a place among the 10 best goalkeepers in North America.

Lucas Beckman from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar leads the way and finds himself in third place. He is closely followed in fourth place by Samuel Meloche of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

The giant goalkeeper of the Quebec Remparts Louis-Antoine Denault is in seventh place, followed closely by Gabriel D’Aigle of the Victoriaville Tigres in eighth place.
