The Vincent Van Gogh exhibition at the National Gallery in London will remain open all night from January 17 to 18, for the last weekend of this very successful event.
An exhibition in History. London’s National Gallery will extend its opening hours until the night of January 17-18, reports Le Figaro. It thus offers one last opportunity for art lovers to discover the flagship exhibition on Vincent Van Gogh before it closes on January 19.
Since its opening on September 14, the Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers exhibition has attracted more than 280,000 visitors. This makes it the third most attended paid exhibition in the history of the gallery, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary. The exhibition focuses on Van Gogh’s works created between February 1888 and May 1890, during the two years the Dutch artist spent in the south of France.
A rare opportunity
The tickets for this exceptional evening were all sold out in record time. Tickets for the night of January 17 went on sale Thursday morning, and the midnight and 12:30 a.m. slots quickly sold out. This will be an opportunity to discover Van Gogh’s masterpieces in a calm and intimate atmosphere, very different from the usual hustle and bustle of the gallery during the day.
Gabriele Finaldi, director of the National Gallery, described the nighttime event as a “rare and special occasion”. This is the second time that this museum remains open at night. The experiment was tried in 2012 with the exhibition Leonardo da Vinci: painter at the court of Milan.
