Formed in 1961, the duo Sam & Dave, composed of Sam Moore and David Prater – who died in 1988 in a car accident – became known in the 1960s thanks to their hits Hold On, I’m Comin’, Soul Man or even I Thank You.
The soul music of the two singers has inspired renowned artists such as Michael Jackson, Al Green and Bruce Springsteen. But, despite the success, the duo no longer got along and decided to separate in 1981, notably due to Sam Moore’s addiction to heroin. In 1992, however, Sam & Dave were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
