The Italian luxury house is unveiling these days the first episode of a new series of content dedicated to its commitments to protecting the oceans.

A series around the Prada Re-Nylon line

In 2019, Prada unveiled its Re-Nylon project with the aim of revisiting one of its emblematic materials, nylon, in a version plus durable based on Econyl, a thread obtained from marine waste, fishing nets or old textile fibers.

While, since 2021, Prada has replaced all traditional nylon fibers in its collections with this infinitely recyclable material, the brand is today devoting a four-part mini documentary series to it. The objective? Present vulnerable maritime spaces and, in subtext, the actions carried out by Sea Beyondthe ocean conservation education program supported by Prada which donates 1% of sales of its Re-Nylon products to this cause.

Developed with National Geographic CreativeWorksthe first episode features British actor Benedict Cumberbatch. In the heart of the Arctic archipelago of Lofoten, in Norway, the latter is being made aware of the subject of plastic pollution, in particular that generated by lost or deliberately abandoned fishing nets.

The next episodes of this series Prada Re-Nylon should be part of the same editorial continuity in “crossing the Atlantic Ocean to explore the seas of Europe and Central America, tracing environmental actions already underway to help preserve marine life for generations to come”indicates the group.

This is the third time that Prada has collaborated with National Geographic on a video project highlighting its initiatives in favor of a more sustainable luxury industry.
