“I like doing graffiti, and I like drawing,” says Ethan, 15 years old. “It gets you out of the house because you play games all the time Call of Duty et Fortniteit’s annoying…” he agrees with Erwan, 12 years old.

The two young residents of Pont-Audemer (Eure) have paused their video games. They came from neighborhood house La Passerelle to give a helping hand to graphic designer Olivier, aka Vaper. They have already participated in this collective fresco project and handle spray paint without trembling to color the shapes drawn by the artist.

During the Christmas holidays, Olivier Bioche supervised, in small groups, around fifteen volunteers – few in number due to the cold and the holidays. He likes to pass on his passion, especially to teenagers. “Usually, they’re interested. »

Here is a video showing the fresco in progress:

Olympic flame and nature

The fresco was commissioned by MonLogement27 and the city of Pont-Audemer. The social landlord wanted only drawingsno graffiti letters (which Vaper does more often “personally”).

On six walls under the passage between the Camaret and Crozon buildingsin the Doult-Vitran district, the street art work gives a little color to the block of buildings.

Its centerpiece is a little girl’s face reproduced in large size by the artist, surrounded by leaves and the Olympic flame, in memory of her visit to Pont-Audemer in July. The other walls will be decorated “blurred shots and foliage” to evoke “nature”.

Living a little above the mural, Axel Vauquelin (also creator of the Facebook group “You know you come from Pont-Audemer when…”) applauds it, although it is not yet finished:

I noticed it yesterday. I find that it brightens up the environment in which I live. It’s a great initiative by the city to want to beautify the neighborhood.

Professional graffiti artist

“I have been handling bombs since I was 16 or 17,” says the man who has made graffiti his profession since 2009. There is no real diploma to do street art, everything comes with experience: “More we do it, the more passionate we are, the more we succeed.” His experience is now solid, but Olivier maintains a critical eye on his work, “because it is the notion of criticism that moves us forward”.

Vaper planned, Friday January 3, 2025, to “make all the funds today”. At the start of the week until Wednesday January 8, he plans to complete the finishing touches. Any latecomers, young people or adults, who would like to can still join him to learn about street art (ask 02 32 42 35 03).
