The satirical horror film by French director Coralie Fargeat won an award for its lead actress Demi Moore at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. She reacts on BFMTV.
“One of the greatest rewards.” French director Coralie Fargeat reacted Monday January 6 on BFMTV to the victory of Demi Moore, star of her film The Substanceduring the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
For the first time in her career, the 62-year-old actress, never rewarded until then, was praised for one of her roles. By unexpectedly receiving the award for best actress in a comedy, the megastar of the 90s has established herself as a favorite for the Oscars, the nominations of which will be announced on January 17.
“Demi felt seen”
Demi Moore, celebrated for her interpretation of a former Hollywood glory in search of recognition and addicted to a youth serum, delivered a moving speech that left its mark. “I’m in shock. I’ve been doing this job for a long time, over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve won anything as an actress.”
“Demi felt seen for the first time,” greets Coralie Fargeat on our antenna. “She felt loved for who she truly is inside. It was almost like the wish of the film came true on stage last night. It was particularly moving.”
“The fact that this role offers him this possibility that his talent – which does not date from today – be seen, recognized, or looked at with other eyes was for me one of the greatest rewards of the film,” continues the director.

“Let’s write roles for women of all ages! Let’s look at them with the same eyes of admiration for their talent – and not just for their looks,” she insists. “And let these voices speak! Let women be who they really are!”
An unusual film
Facing Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez) or Mikey Madison (Anora), the competition was tough. “It wasn’t a foregone conclusion,” confirms Coralie Fargeat. “Especially since (The Substance) is a film which is outside the habits of these academies which often reward more consensual films.”
“What really struck me yesterday was that the majority of films present were quite radical proposals for cinema, new voices with strong and daring biases who were able to find their place despite the obstacles,” continues the director.
Already rewarded at Cannes, where she won the prize for best screenplay, Coralie Fargeat expresses her gratitude to the Golden Globes. “I put so much passion and sincerity into (…) my films that receiving awards (…) is always an immense joy.”
And to conclude: “It’s always a way of seeing that the film has touched and created something in a place that no longer belongs to us. Which is the goal when we make a film. It’s such recognition for the film. We were all delighted.”
