LArtists and creators are faced with an unprecedented situation. An inanimate mechanism is capable of emitting propositions that closely resemble what is customary to consider as creation. Of course, throughout history, numerous technological advances have modified the range of possibilities for artistic expression, but never by interfering with this very particular process which allows us to design works. Even if we consider adjuvants like alcohol or other psychotropic drugs as powerful allies of inspiration, it is clear that they have never produced an idea, a text, a drawing or a piece of Music from a prompt.
But this is what is happening today. From an intelligibly formulated request, in less time than it takes to think, an often breathtakingly relevant response springs from the magic box. So much so that if we were not aware of the technological spell that allows it, we could quickly imagine a disturbing devilry, or even summon the stake.
Personally, I have used artificial intelligence (AI) in a completely uninhibited way since it was made accessible to the public. I contributed extensively to one of the world’s first self-publishing books fully illustrated by AI (a biography of Jesus, at that). I distill animated images into films. I do voiceovers. Music pieces. Several AIs are now my faithful partners for screenwriting. And I give training courses in which I share these new practices. For the past two years, I have also participated in round tables or master classes on the subject. I therefore come into contact with many artists and discuss them.

The reactions are diverse, but break down into fairly identifiable categories. There are those violently against it. Most of the time, they have not used AI, and have an idea of it that is as precise as it is vague: that of a metallic, soulless entity that risks supplanting them in the short term. Those who sneak a finger in, but without communicating too much about it, for fear of being ostracized from their community – this is the case of several illustrators, comic book artists and musicians I know. Those who have no opinion, because they did not understand that a revolution was taking place before their eyes. And finally, those, not very many, who start trying to use it.
