A flagship piece in the history of music and dance, the Bolero of Maurice Ravel is one of the most recognized French works in the world. This composition responds to a commission from the Russian dancer Ida Rubinstein who wanted a “carnal and captivating music” for his future ballet. Ravel, a proven composer, sensitive to the idea of dance, opted for the bolero, a traditional Andalusian dance and this is how the work comes into being.
