In Everyone standing (2018), he played a mythomaniac businessman pretending to be paraplegic in order to seduce a woman. In Rumba life (2022), he played an old boy taking dance lessons in order to reconnect with his daughter, whom he had abandoned at birth. After these two well-executed comedies talking about misplaced masculinity and redemption, as if to free himself from the roles of somewhat hunky characters in which he was sometimes confined, Franck Dubosc dynamizes his filmography more profoundly with A Bear in the Jurahis third feature film as writer, director and actor.
Michel, a farmer in the French Jura, endures his life in a certain way. He no longer has anything to say to his wife Cathy and loses interest in his son, who wanders like a ghost on the family farm. One evening, at the table, he confided: “I killed two strangers.” And to recount what we have just seen in the opening sequence: in order to avoid a bear, he left the road and crashed into a car parked on the edge of the forest, instantly killing a woman who was urinating behind his door. Before the man who accompanied him fled and ended up impaled on a log! By recounting the accident, Michel realizes the absurdity of the situation. He fled because, in debt, he did not pay the insurance on his car. The only response is that Cathy tells him that there are no bears in the Jura…
