OOpened to the public in December 2021, the Cinévals cinema complex was quick to find its audience. The elected officials of Vals de Saintonge community, owner of the building, hoped for 60,000 entries per year. From the first year of opening, the Véocinéma team, holder of a public service delegation for the management of the cinema, recorded 62,000 admissions. In 2023, the record was broken with 73,400 entries.

We screened 487 films in 2024 for 440 films in 2022 and 2023

For the year 2024, Cinévals has, with 79,500 tickets sold, done even better. “This is good news, we continue to progress,” rejoices Damien Lecouvé, the manager of this three-screen cinema complex. The number of sessions is constant: 4,000 between the 1is January and December 31, 2024 and the number of films broadcast during this same period is increasing. “We screened 487 films in 2024 for 440 films in 2022 and 2023,” continues Damien Lecouvé.

As everywhere in , it was Artus’ film “Un p’tit truc en plus” which attracted the most spectators (5,500 admissions). Far behind, “Moana 2” recorded 3,660 admissions ahead of “Vice-Versa 2”. Four French films are among the ten films that attracted the most spectators at Cinévals (1). In the house film category, it was “L’amour ouf” by Gilles Lellouche which attracted the most spectators.

“Art house” screenings

Since last fall, Cinévals has provided, once a month, a screening of a surprise “arthouse” film. This initiative, launched by the French Association of Arthouse Cinemas, also appealed to the local public. “It works well,” confirms Damien Lecouvé, “the spectators trust us and discover films that they would not necessarily have gone to see. » Several presentation evenings of short films made by Angériens (such as “Bouquet final” by Maxime Brégowy) were also organized (read Sudouest.fr of February 29, 2024). The various activities (aimed at school audiences) and thematic screenings (we think of opera broadcasts) have enjoyed unparalleled success.

Finally, we must remember the important role played by the local film buffs association: Grand Écran. Throughout the year, it organizes screenings (this year the theme is childhood at the cinema) which delight a demanding audience (read Sudouest.fr from August 20, 2024). The next meetings will take place on Monday January 6 (with the screening of the film “Un monde” by Laura Mandel) and Monday January 27 (probably on the theme of comics). Prices (8 euros full price, 5.80 euros with subscriptions) will not be increased immediately. For 2025, Cinévals, which employs five employees, is confident and hopes to break a new attendance record.
