Patrice Geniez recently set his photographer’s eye on Conques, a place of inspiration for this Aveyron artist who exhibits a dozen of his photos at the Le Liadou du Vallon boutique in Marcillac. We often have the idea of the photographer who shoots his subject, but Patrice is not one of them, he who admits to needing to take his time and feel an emotion before triggering his camera. “I wanted to enter the spirit of Conques and sublimate its abbey church by highlighting its aesthetics and trying to translate the spiritual atmosphere transcended by the presence of the Premonstratensian brothers”. “I believe in the magic of captured moments, in the ability of each photo to tell a story” specifies the photographer, commenting on his photos which alternate between black and white and color, a bias chosen for “highlight the effects of contrast, the depth of space and the play of light which filter through stained glass windows by Pierre Soulages”. A very beautiful exhibition which finds its place in the boutique of Nicolas Julvet whose latest production is none other than the liadou de Conques, an exceptional knife equipped with an oak handle, shaped by hand and from the ancient frame of the Conques abbey church recently dismantled. The spring is numbered and engraved according to a pattern taken from one of the abbey capitals.
This unique liadou, published in 1000 copies, is marketed in a luxurious box accompanied by a booklet dedicated to Conques and its link with liadou.
