The city of Nîmes is reviving the tradition of the New Year’s concert, thanks to Carole Roth of Volques. The new meeting took place at Daudet high school.
“What could be better than starting the year with music! It’s a joy to resume this tradition of the New Year’s concert,” exclaims tenor Carlos Natale, on the bill for the new event hosted by the Volques and its artistic director Carole Roth, radiant for the occasion, surrounded by around ten musicians from the region invited for this musical afternoon.
More than 200 people
In the Terrisse room of the Daudet high school, which undoubtedly opened its doors for the first time in its history on the first of the year, the musicians were directed in a fresh and dancing way by conductor Nicola Simoni.
Bet successful! This premiere brought together more than 200 music lovers, delighted with the initiative, the joyful program and the champagne bubbles after the concert… There were even young people and families, audiences who have almost disappeared from classical concerts in Nîmes!
Alternating instrumental pieces and tunes sung by Carlos Natale, the program revisits the principle of the New Year’s concert, Viennese style with the essential waltzes of Strauss, the operetta tunes of Franz Lehar, the light and lively music… At the same time, the Volques s adapt to the local terroir and the performers, mixing Central European traditions with Latin and Mediterranean colors. From the blue banks of the Danube, the concert takes off to cross the Atlantic.
Based in Nîmes, tenor of Argentinian origin Carlos Natale introduces the lyrical music of his country with zarzuelas, with spicy charm and very Latin romanticism. Georges Bizet and his Carmen are also invited to the program, before a final and humorous nod to Jerry Lewis with a percussionist playing a typewriter.
