“I’ve wanted to paint for 40 years.” Dream fulfilled for this participant.

Throughout the month of December, the hall of honor at the town hall of Saint-Girons even exhibited his works and those of around ten other participants. The result of collective workshops which culminated in this exhibition under the leadership of Aurora Piras, painter and art therapist, as part of a call for projects from the Cfppa.

And to achieve this, we will have had to go beyond our gaze, that of others but also, perhaps above all, that of ourselves, to dare to take the plunge and tame the white canvas. “This is really the subject of this collective work entitled ‘Question de Regard’. The look we have on our own abilities and how we manage to go beyond all that. It is also the look between the artists, a support, mutual aid and of course the way the public looks at it.”

Amateur artists eager to get started and dare to reveal themselves: it was from the CCAS, the CLIC but also from charitable associations like the Restos du Cœur that Aurora Piras sought them out. “With this idea of bringing together people from all backgrounds, young and old, then creating emulation, an effervescence that generates links,” expresses the latter. Links that were affirmed from workshop to workshop throughout a process of ten sessions where everyone progressed and mastered their technique. Painting, drawing, around portraits of oneself or loved ones are thus born on the canvas. “Learning to draw is also learning to look. It’s mastering the techniques to draw beyond the things you see.” Upon arrival, these ten people, often far removed from artistic practices, pushed their limits a little further and, by discovering new ways of seeing, communicated with the canvas. “We are all artists capable of expressing beauty.” A beautiful shared artistic adventure which remains above all a deeply human adventure, where emotion was particularly evident at the time of the opening, on the canvas as in the room.
