Warner has once again postponed the release of The Batman 2which will therefore be desired for a long, very long time.
Even before the last appearance of Ben Affleck's Dark Knight in The Flashanother Batman has appeared in the cinema, this time in the guise of Robert Pattinson. The movie The Batman was released in 2022 and with it the promise of a brand new Batverse independent of the DCU headed by James Gunn. However, the universe is dragging its feet: the project for a spin-off series on the Gotham police force has probably been abandoned, as has the one on Arkham Asylum which was to be developed by Antonio Campos (The Devil, all the time).
For now, only the spin-off series The Penguin with Colin Farrell actually saw the light of day (and so much the better, it was great). The sequel to Matt Reeves' film, meanwhile, continues to be postponed. Originally, The Batman 2 was supposed to arrive in October 2025, but was pushed back to October 2026. Finally, Warner has announced that the film has once again been delayed by a year.
THE BATMAN 2 THOUSAND YEARS LATER
Even though Matt Reeves confirmed last September that the script for The Batman 2 was well and truly ready, the studio announced that the film will not enter production until the end of 2025 for a release scheduled for October 1, 2027 in the United States, and therefore probably September 29 in France. The DC film is not the only one to have been impacted, Warner having made various schedule adjustments (notably for Mickey 17 by Bong Joon-ho, in which Pattinson and Sinners by Ryan Coogler with Michael B. Jordan).
The old October 2026 slot has been taken over by Alejandro González's intriguing film starring Tom Cruise.
However, the public will have their dose of DC films in 2026 with the project on the villain Clayface (Clayface in original version) sold as a pure horror film like The Fly with Mike Flanagan writing the screenplay. The movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow directed by Craig Gillespie and worn by Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) will be released on June 24, 2026, after the Superman by James Gunn scheduled for July 9, 2025.
